The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has implemented another change in addition to its new Clearinghouse that may impact your drug screening program.
On December 27, 2019, the FMCSA announced that it is increasing the minimum annual percentage rate for random controlled substances testing. The percentage is now fifty percent, up from the prior amount of twenty-five percent.
This update impacts drivers of commercial motor vehicles who are required to have a commercial driver’s license. FMCSA was required under a federal rule to increase the testing percentage due to an increase in the positive testing rate. The updated fifty percent annual testing rate is effective as of January 1, 2020.
