Employers are likely aware of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, and its implications for daily operations. COVID-19 is causing issues for employers that are predictable, but it may also impact the background screening process.
The federal government and smaller jurisdictions such as states have declared emergencies, including school and court closures. Additionally, some employers are choosing to have employees work from home or otherwise address concerns with having groups of people gather.
Due to school and court closures and fluctuating employer operations, it is likely that your background screening program may be affected in some way, namely in the completion of court searches and education and employment verifications. If a court has closed completely or has closed itself to public access, there may be processing delays for court record searches. In the event of court closure, AccuSource will review all options available for completing services. For example, we will utilize electronic options such as online court systems. While we normally contact the school itself to verify education, the school will likely be closed during the outbreak. We will attempt the verification through the school district if available. We will use online verification systems where possible for employment verifications but may experience delays if we must contact an employer who has either closed or is operating on an emergency basis. AccuSource will use alternative methods available to us to complete services as quickly as possible. If we cannot do so because there is no alternative method available, we will keep you informed of delays and any updates that we obtain regarding the availability of standard methods.
