As part of its 2019-2020 State Budget, the New York Legislature approved a significant increase to the search fees associated with Office of Court Administration searches. The fee will increase from $65 to $95 per search plus any additional convenience fees.
The entirety of the $30 increase will be used to fund indigent defense programs in New York. While the Legislature tried to determine other avenues of funding to support these programs, it could not find alternative funding.
The fee increase will officially go into effect when New York Governor Cuomo signs the budget, which may occur as early as Friday, April 5, 2019.
