Blog Post Image

2021 has seen changes in the background screening industry that have greatly impacted the screening programs of employers. From the identifier redactions occurring in California and Michigan to new ban the box laws, employers may face new issues in conducting screening. Privacy continues to trickle across the United States with several privacy laws going into effect in the not-too-distant future. New states have legalized marijuana and jurisdictions have restricted the right of employers to test for marijuana. Courts have made findings and lawmakers have created rules that have complicated the screening process for background screening agencies and users of reports.

In this webinar, we reviewed ban the box updates that came into existence in 2021. We also provided a brief overview of the identifier redaction issues that have arisen in California and Michigan and discussed the privacy laws that could impact your organization. Additionally, we reviewed new laws and decisions related to marijuana and drug screening. To conclude, we revealed areas to watch for the remainder of the year and into 2022 as well as important trends in background screening to consider in maintaining compliant programs.
